1. How does Skools Inn identify if children need extra support, and what should I do if I think my child may have a special educational need or disability (SEND)?

At Skools Inn, we believe every child is unique, and we are committed to supporting each child’s individual learning journey. From the moment your child joins us, they will be assigned a dedicated Key Person who will build a strong, nurturing relationship with them and closely monitor their development.

Our experienced team regularly observes and assesses each child’s progress to identify their next steps in learning. These observations are shared with you, and we warmly encourage you to share insights about your child’s development at home. This two-way communication helps us create a well-rounded understanding of your child’s needs.

If your child’s Key Person has any concerns about their development, they will discuss these with you and involve our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO). If your child has or may have SEN, we will arrange a meeting with the SENco to ensure we understand their needs fully. This allows us to plan any necessary support and make reasonable adjustments to our environment, helping your child feel confident, included, and ready to thrive at Nursery Skools Inn.

2. How will the staff at Skools Inn Nursery support my child?

At Skools Inn Nursery, your child’s Key Person will work closely with both you and your child to build a strong, supportive relationship. We believe that open and regular communication is key, and we encourage you to share any updates or concerns with your child’s Key Person to help us provide the best possible care.

Our dedicated Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENco) is always available to offer additional support and guidance for both you and your child. We also maintain regular contact with our Area Inclusion Team, your child's health Visitor and any other agencies envolved with your childs development to ensure we are following best practices and accessing the right resources.

You will be actively involved in your child’s learning journey. We will invite you to regular review meetings where we’ll work together to set development goals and discuss progress. If additional support is needed, and with your consent, we can make referrals to external professionals to ensure your child receives the right help at the right time.

3. How will the curriculum be tailored to meet my child’s individual needs?

At Skools Inn Nursery, we celebrate each child as a unique learner. Your child’s Key Person will take time to understand their interests, strengths, and preferred ways of learning through regular observations, conversations with you, and time spent with your child.

This insight allows us to adapt our Early Years curriculum to suit your child’s individual needs and learning style. Activities are carefully planned to be engaging and accessible, ensuring every child can take part and make progress at their own pace.

We use a variety of supportive strategies to help children thrive, such as visual aids like visual daily routine displays, Now and Next boards, staff wear key words with visual prompts on lanyards around their necks for easy access and instant communications, small group sessions to encourage interaction and focus, and differentiated activities that are tailored to different levels of ability and understanding.

Our goal is to create a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child feels confident, supported, and inspired to learn.

4. How will we both know how my child is progressing, and how will you support me in helping my child learn at home?

At Skools Inn Nursery, we believe that strong partnerships with parents and carers are key to a child’s success. Your child’s Key Person will keep you informed with regular updates at drop-off and pick-up times, via your BabysDays app and you’ll also have opportunities to speak with our SENco and Nursery Manager whenever needed.

We carefully document your child’s development in their personal Learning Journey on BabysDays. We also welcome contributions from home—such as photos, drawings, or stories from holidays or special moments—to help us build a complete picture of your child’s experiences and progress.

5. What support is in place for my child’s overall well-being?

At Skools Inn Nursery, your child’s well-being is at the heart of everything we do. We offer settle sessions. They consist of 1 session where parents should attend and stay with your child for half an hour and the second half an hour your leave your child with us. Second settle session we ask you to leave your child with us for 1 hour. More settle session will be arranged should the staff feel this appropriate this gives you and your child time to get comfortable with our environment, staff, and routines.

Before your child joins us, we’ll discuss their needs with you, this is done in person face to face with parents, Nursery managers, and the room lead from your child's room.  We can administer prescribed medication when needed, with your written consent via our Medicine Permission Form on BabysDays. If your child has a medical condition, we can create a personalised care plan, and our staff will undertake any necessary training to ensure their needs are met safely and confidently.

To ensure your child’s safety, we use a secure digital system to sign children in and out of the nursery. Parents and carers can view the exact times of drop-off and collection, as well as who dropped your child off and who collected your child from Nursery, directly through our app. If someone unfamiliar to us is collecting your child, we will require them to know the password, bring photo ID and be named as a person who can collect your child from Nursery on your BabysDays app for added security. Please note that children will not be released to anyone under the age of 16.

6. How will my child be included in activities outside Skools Inn Nursery, including trips?

At Skools Inn Nursery, we believe that learning extends far beyond the classroom. We provide a wide range of enriching experiences outside the nursery to help children explore the world around them and build confidence in new environments.

For these outings, we carry out thorough risk assessments, and staff are equipped with a mobile phone, first aid kit, and any necessary medication for individual children. All adults and children wear high-visibility jackets to ensure safety at all times.

We have a strong connection with our local care home, where children visit to take part in intergenerational activities—building empathy, communication skills, and a sense of community.

Our Apple Class children enjoy weekly swimming lessons, helping them develop water confidence and physical coordination in a fun and supportive setting.

For trips further afield, we use our nursery minibus to explore exciting locations such as Stannah Woods and the Nature Reserve in Fleetwood. These outings are carefully planned to be inclusive and accessible for all children, with appropriate support in place to meet individual needs.

We are committed to making sure every child can take part in these valuable experiences, and we’ll always work with you to ensure your child feels safe, supported, and included.

7. How accessible is Skools Inn Nursery?

At Skools Inn Nursery, we are committed to creating an inclusive and accessible environment for all children and families. We work closely with parents and carers to identify any specific needs and are happy to source specialist equipment or make reasonable adjustments to support each child’s access and comfort.

Our nursery building has a step at the main entrance, but step-free access is available via the rear entrance. Inside, we have a fully accessible disabled toilet for children and visitors who may need it.

Outdoor access varies slightly by room:

  • Mini Maples and Baby Acorns rooms have direct access to outdoor play areas with no steps.
  • The main garden area is flat, with one small step down to the grassed play zone. A ramp is available to ensure all children can access this space safely.
  • There is also one step from the nursery garden into the soft play, but again, a ramp can be used when needed.

Apple Class is located upstairs; however, if a child is unable to access the upper floor, we can make arrangements for their learning to take place downstairs to ensure full inclusion.
